Purely speculating as the devil's advocate. As it's double blinded they shouldn't have access to issues with efficacy and as Vin pointed out this has been designed from the outset. I'm just thinking along the lines of an 'insurance policy' extension study. If Lilac flops at least they could salvage something by changing the age variable.
