I probably agree with you there --
and, as much as I believe that the combo of hawke keating keating hawke etc did some fantastic things for oz -
they were not perfect
it was Hawke who allowed the foot in the door with Uni fees also -
definitely IMO - a huge blunder.
However, even if we agreed and cried on each others shoulder and sipped a red ---------- about the last decades
wtf do we do now?
what a mammoth task it would be to get the Oz ship on a decent track????
If I were to wave a magic wand - this is (some of) what I see needs doing
A total economic restructure
A total tax restructure
A complete makeover of services like education, social welfare, health and god knows what else
A real drive for cultural change to progressive society - bearing in mind the era we are hurtling into atm
A total restructure of the political landscape - a cleaner system
A massive drive to oust corruption in every facet of the society
A massive drive to get rid of violence, disrespect etc in society - at all levels
Some sort of restructure to allow the nation to work AS a nation - not a collection of states
A total reverse of loss of freedoms in the nation - a cultural change from our default position of 'lock it up' to 'open it up'
to me - any one of those and many more are gargantuan tasks -
but, ALL require doing for the future of Oz --
frankly - I've got absolutely no bloody idea how it's achievable because of the sad and sick state that we have allowed it to become
