The media recently used file footage of demolishing buildings . . . none of which were Evergrande projects.

Some of the buildings shown in the file footage had structural defects.

Other such clusters of high rises have been demolished for breach of building codes . . . such as adding an extra 80 metres in height over the approved plan.

Other demolitions have occurred for reason of re-development (similar to Trump demolishing a massive building in New Jersey for redevelopment).

When many of the now ghost cities were built some 20 to 30 years ago, Chinese urbanization
was low when compared to the west and the CCP saw urbanization necessary to lift China economically. Over the past 20 to 30 years there has been a huge increase in the movement of people from farms to industrialized cities with corresponding wealth increase to the individual and the economy. However along the journey some of the residential properties built still lay in waiting for the industries to come that will support jobs. Although urbanization has increased significantly it still remains behind that of Europe and the USA.

The CCP is reknowned for making long term plans . . . where as western governments sometimes find it difficult to look beyond the next election.

In S. E. Asia it is common to see buildings built and left unoccupied for years . . . it is not just a phenomenon of China.

Asian culture differs significantly from the west . . . in Asia it is often seen as a mark of success in how many people a business can employ . . unlike the businesses in the west that look more often to cutting jobs.

In Asia you will find overwhelming numbers of nurses in hospitals, with waiting times even in government hospitals significantly less than the west. Similarly if you go to the hardware store, supermarket, car repair, bank, post office, hotel, restaurant you will find a copious amount of staff. Construction sites are huge employers of not just skilled but also provide jobs for many unskilled workers as well.

It is common in Asian to build for the future. Mums and dads will invest in building houses, condos and shops so that they can hand them down through the generations . . . with little concern whether or not they are currently occupied.
