Love the discussions around the IDSB investment and BNPL funding - no idea how this will all pan out and what's actually going on.
Whether or not it was a good purchase will be known over time. The Evergrande collapse in China is certainly making my sphincter pucker up at the moment and I'm sure my IOU personal holding will be $100k in the hole after today and my SMSF will add more to that red figure.
I'd like to put this out there from left field as no one has mentioned that the $4 million yearly profit share they expect to get would give them a nice chunk of cash to leverage into a funding loan for the BNPL book. At 3% interest (no idea what they can get) $4million would cover a $133M loan on a continuous rollover basis technically forever and that wouldn't be a bad would it?
Just throwing that out there as a way for IOU to "get going". That would maybe give them a 1% profit per BNPL contract (not enough I know). Admittedly this would not be ideal but it's a profitable scenario compared to all the other BNPL players around the world.
Just a little positive spin on the deal. Not looked seriously at the numbers (and interest number I've chosen is low) but profit allows some kind of loan to be funded.
