This feels like my first ever share purchased (in 1983?) on the back of a Sydney Morning Herald new years article titled broker recommendations for 1984. One broker mentioned the possibility of an exciting discovery by a small company called Nuiguini Mining Limited. Received a black and white photocopied letter from a director (Cominos?) 6 weeks after purchasing imploring shareholders not to sell and to feel free to telephone him on his business or home number (Sydney eastern suburbs number I recall) if had any questions. Something about new drill intersections on an island called Lihir. I sold when the share price doubled in a few weeks. Shareprice ended up going up tenfold (with a few stock splits on the way) and the company became Lihir Gold.
Interesting to hear talk that Lihir directors are possibly running a ruler over Perseus now.
Maybe this is one of those "do not sell" times. They seem to come around for me about once every quarter century.
