In less than two weeks,
New South Wales will lead the way and take its first major step towards opening up and living with
COVID-19.
Once again, people – including the five million-odd in Greater Sydney who have been cooped up for months - will be let loose on non-essential retail stores, cafés, pubs, cinemas and gyms.
But only if they are fully vaccinated. Those who have not yet had two doses of a COVID-19
vaccine will be turned away at the door.
It is expected NSW will hit the 70 percent double dose vaccination mark before Monday, October 11 and, if so, that's when the new freedoms will kick in.
But whose job will it be to keep the unvaccinated out?
Retail groups have expressed fears the responsibility may fall to young staff members who could cop some nasty abuse from customers who are rejected because of their vaccination status.
There is also some confusion about how heavily compliance officers will crack down on businesses who fail to keep the unvaccinated out.
