If you get that from the Book of Revelation then I don't think it applies to us but to the people under Roman persecution during the time that the book was written. In my view, a lot more nonsense is written about the Book of Revelation than sense; for evidence look no further than the failed prophecies resulting from the Book of Revelation (and the book of Daniel).
