What I understand, they made a patent application in Australia and now have made a PCT application for that application to extend the time in which they need to do the real applications in various countries. Even the Australian patent has not been granted and so at this time, they can get more time to apply for several international patents by filing PCT. So they are not investing in patent applications, but only pushing the deadline of the international applications forward and waiting for what will first happen with the Australian application.
