Here in southern Vic have asked Parks people about our
twin problems of feral cats and foxes.
There are national parks from Cape Schanck to Portsea.
There is a ban on walking dogs on a leash on the beach
because of nesting hooded plovers.
When asked
"What about the thousands of feral cats and foxes"
they failed to answer.
Two months ago called out to put down a Hereford at calving on a farm at the
Rye back beach.
The calf was stuck, wild dogs and foxes had killed the calf,
then started eating the heifer alive - the soft parts at the rear.
The farm was close to the national park, and we are not allowed to
take our guns over the fence to get dogs or foxes.
I will tell the farmer to look up feline encephalitis,
he has friends who might know where to get some.
