Military Toxic Exposures: The Human Consequences of War

  Dr. Anthony M Szema’s testimony before a U.S. Senate Committee on Burn Pits that US Veterans worked in and around damaging their lung health with long term consequences including multiple lung transplants and early death.

  Szema talking in reference to retired Army staff sergeant Bill Thompson; “There are black spots that are burns, particles all over; there’s metal. It was all scarred,” said Szema, a pulmonologist and professor who studies toxic exposures and examined Thompson’s preserved lung tissue. “There was no gas exchange anywhere in that lung.”
