I believe we need greater transparency from the company. While all releases refer to “standard x-ray imagery” or “suitable imaging hardware available” the whole premise of XV LVAS being immediately applicable warrants interrogation.
My observation suggests that the compatible equipment that is “standard” in hospitals and clinics today is not the standard X-Ray equipment but the more specialised and far less prevalent C-Arm X-Ray machines/mobile fluoroscopic devices, usually very profitably dedicated to cardio sections in hospitals. Part of the dilemma confronting 4D Medical is convincing hospitals to reallocate the machines to lung/pulmonary centres or to buy in new dedicated machines for those centres. Hospitals would have to significantly disrupt existing workflows to be able to accomodate XV LVAS - you will not find cardio centres process lung/pulmonary treatments and why would they if already very successfully utilised. This would explain why the take up of SaaS has not been as readily adopted as the hype at time of IPO and why the market has subsequently been disappointed and not prepared to buy the hype, despite the gloss from Co releases.
It would also explain why 4D have elected to enter the scanning device market. So suggestions as to the need to be patient will be fully realised as there is not going to be a rapid take up of XV LVAS regardless of its suitability because it will ultimately require dedicated devices that are currently not available in the appropriate centres.
