I note Kluck has me on ignore so will not be able to read this response but still feels the need to extend the argument (hard to understand why?). Having just looked up my Collins Australian Pocket Dictionary (you need a big pocket) its meaning of 'fiasco' is "a ridiculous or humiliating failure"; it say no more and bigger dictionaries might, but this meaning is likely the common meaning.

The implication from LC about expectations for August that were never withdrawn in a fashion likely to be seen by all, were almost exactly this meaning - a humiliating failure. I certainy stand by that definition for what happened in August, and it only needed an announcement to correct it for all to see.
