You are essentially talking about opportunity cost. The risk of seeing other gains pass you by because you've held your money in 4DS. That is something I have managed, and continue to do. And by the sounds of it, you have too. Well done. You have a head on your shoulders. I do not broadcast it because it is something everyone should decide for themselves.
It is my estimation that 4DS is somewhat humstrung and subtly-bullied by Western Digital. I feel they are walking the tightrope, waiting for WD to pull a trigger, or waiting for the technology to hit critical mass to pull the triggers themselves, and the strategic game-play balancing act of both those 2 angles.
In terms of the long awaited acquisition.... I hope for this year - it is a small wedge in the probabilities pie chart. My expectation is not until PL3 which should come in by March 2022. My next concern is that PL3 would be the 2nd shot at trying to solve integration "technical issues" - this may mean a PL4 is necessary because they simply need to try more stuff to get it right. If PL4 is necessary, then realistically we will be here this time next year.
Back to opportunity costs and why I elect to continue to hold such a large parcel (I have diversified myself amongst other assets to my level of comfort regarding opportunity costs) - 4DS is still in my view, even at today's SP, the most sure way to net 7, 8 or 9 bags from here (a billion dollar technology)(some would have you believe even more bags... but dyor and yada yada yada ). If you see opportunity to bag like that elsewhere, of course go and weigh up the risks / the timeframes / etc etc. That is your prerogative.
