In the next parliament session, which begins 25 September, the Self Rule government will propose that it should take control of the nation’s raw materials from 1 January 2010.
'The government has determined that it is of great importance for our independence that the raw materials area is one of the first that should be put under control of the state', writes Karl Ove Berthelsen, minister for business and commodities from Inuit Ataqatigiit, in his presentation notes.
Also, as mining and working conditions lie very close to each other, the government has also proposed that a portion of the working environment area relating to offshore work is also put under its control from the start of the new year. Negotiations for acquisition of the entire working conditions area must be negotiated with the state.
The self-rule government will submit a proposal regarding the raw materials law to parliament during the autumn session, which ends in late November.
