I am not sure you know how options work - these were issued to Caigen years ago. He could have easily sold some of his shares to pay for the conversion of his options (as most directors and management do), but instead he stumped up an extra million in cash.
I wish all the management of the other companies I am invested in were as committed as Caigen.
