Agree, only economical at that grade for porphyry deposits.The grade has gone down and the ore milled has gone up which bodes well for cyms future. Only one major discovery (HCH) of copper in the last 3 years. People are unprepared to the supply the world copper due to lack of investment and time it takes to set up mines.
The post you shared is hypothetically a billion tonnes. Absolutely massive.. not applicable to VMS or other deposits.
For what I'm seeing in other deposits, I'd say 0.5% would be the absolute lowest you'd consider mining open pit, maybe 0.4% with heap leach, depending on tonnage.
Underground on the other hand would need a cut off grade of 1%. Generally speaking. Which more likely needs to be greater than 1.5% depending on the depth of the underground mine.
