Is this the catalyst that CGQ is using to transform the industry, an active fund manager that doesn't charge a high performance fee and instead goes for scale.

Management fees are the major reason why in my opinion so many active fund managers fail to outperform. That active high management fee eats away at any gross portfolio performance over time.

I'm suspicious of a fund that doesn't do performance fees. Their goal is to outperform and the fund manager's revenue should be aligned with that. Incentives drive behavior.

That said I can see fee pressure coming but that will primarily affect the retail. A lot of their institutional mandates will all have management fee rebates attached to them.
