@Parsifal you might be interested to check out a book, which I read as a result of seeing an unusual play at a theater here in Perth.
the story of the play is a true one, but re-told a number of times and maybe some 'truths' got lost in that process.
I have to concentrate now to remember the title, but it was something like "The Encouner - Amazon Beaming" - and by 'beaming' was understood to be a way of communicating by thought only - telepathy. In the book only a few people from a tribe of 'Matse' people (the cat people of the Amazonas) had that capacity.
but it was a story shown on stage by the writer of the book, who had the story second-hand from a Rumanian guy who had accidentally (plane accident) been lost in that forest and was rescued and then stayed with a small tribe of Matse people.
He was telling the story somewhere in undefined space (on stage, of course) and he could have been anywhere, on a plane, in the forest, in a drug session with the Matse men, but in between, his little daughter, left alone in a bed-sit in London, would call out and wake him with her needs . . . . it was charming, rivetting and totally convincing.
the small audience was supplied with ear phones and we heard rain forest noises around us - even the magic of being walked around by a 'sorcerer' was transmitted via the ear phones. It felt very real - and I think all of us came out somewhat transformed by the experience. I went on to buy the book, which in the meantime I have loaned out and it hasn't been returned - yet.
Take care
