Yep what you suggested cant be ruled out also. However, I dont think CNP though wants to let go of a controlling interest of CER just yet. If that happens they run the risk of losing their RE (Responsible entity) status over CER should unitholders elect another party who brings a better deal to the table. Dont think CNP want to get themselves into that situation. CER is a good client of CNP as they pay significant management fees to CNP.
Im sure theyve done their sums and they know what the intrinsic value of CER is. Needless to say it would be higher than the current unit price!
Anyway lets wait and see
