I still think it could be some information release that is going to jeopardize the NDA , and agreement has to be reached with HGST rather than IMEC. This is the most plausible theory, and it does not mean any corporate transaction/company direction, technically still a technical update but perhaps too much for HGST to accept.

I don't think it is the 3rd platform, rather it is the previous platform but with some info withheld on purpose due to NDA; but now has to be released to drum up a CR (which i do not oppose, if HGST stumps up some R&D cash, which means this SP's going to moon).

Years of turd polishing and not telling the truth will breach some disclosure responsibility, will still get a class action no? I know @jasp will start one ...
