help - broadband deal ???????

OK I admit it, I still have dial up access, but the good news is that the contract expires on the 22/9.
I know, I know, I should have done something about it 12 months ago, well better late than never but I am confused with all the offers out there, can anyone assist with a recommended service please.
Of course I want the most economical deal, with free local calls etc.
Also my old computer will most likely need replacing, maybe with a new box only. The old one is only a Pentium II 650, and only runs Windows 98, [stop laughing] and I doubt that it will be ok for broadband or cable, any suggestions?
