Nobody has rights to beat anybody.

That includes husbands, wives, cops, soldiers, parents - nobody means nobody. The social values that allow any of the above to have unwritten rights to beat and injure anyone especially those less capable of defending themselves are disgusting and must be opposed by everyone.

To make an exception is to open the door to tolerance of violence in some form.

Some muslims may justify wife beating. Some hindus may justify 'honour killings' of women. Some dogs here on HC justified drunken soldiers burning newborn kittens alive and soldiers bashing a pregant woman to induce a miscarriage - because they love soldiers somehow in a way I can't possibly understand.

But all those acts are wrong. The letter of the law in most countries is right, and it should be applied without tolerance or excuses.

It's a poor reflection on the smear merchants that they claim that those who always oppose violence and violent reaction to violence could possibly tolerate violence for political or religious reasons.
