There is an aspect to the GW proponents vs GW skeptics debate that cannot be ignored. We can tolerate having the proponents ultimately proved wrong, (we simply end up with cleaner air), but not so the skeptics. If the skeptics continue to lobby for "no action" they better be right!
Incidentally, and ironically, one of the effects of a catastrophic global warming event would be a new ice age in the Northern hemisphere as the reduction in salinity of the Northern oceans, (as the Arctic icecap melts) will disrupt the tempering effects of the Gulf Stream.
