Not sure I agree with that sentiment. If the goal is to calm your nerves for the long term, there are many ways to do that. If TA does the trick for you, then that's great, but I don't think all FA investors require TA, though it probably wouldn't hurt. Warren Buffett never uses TA and he has done fine, there are many FA investors who have never needed TA.
I look at TA as a curiosity, but if bad news like LTR losing their mining licence comes about, I don't need to look at a chart to understand that I need to sell my shares.
