as with most industries and I'm sure especially ones with NDAs and the likes with secrecy on scales like this, there would be employment terms that state employees wont be able to work with in the industry for say 1 year after termination of contract with 4ds. preventing poaching from competitors or loss of internal knowledge to competitors.
most of the work is complete would be as mentioned, placed on an in house consultancy as the subject matter experts when required. then move with the tech for the final 3-4 years of commercialisation and product integration.
seems like its looking after employees rather than flicking them out. you don't do this if tech has failed. its a, here is 80 G to sit tight for the sales bonus. company has looked after employees and there input for quite sometime.
