I have run the calculator. I am not sure I fully understand the output. However, it shows me that I would have a fairly large amount of nominal loss for CGT purposes. This means it would only benefit people who have a lot of profit from other sources for CGT purposes and want to use this "loss" to dodge some of the CGT tax. So, you would want to buy from the market now (after the 7.3% drop) and then sell back to Westpac to net this "loss" for CGT purposes. One would want to keep the shares currently own rather than selling them at a loss? The risk is that if you buy now and it drops further, you just lose more.
