I've got no problem with the government cancelling the deal. It sounded like a terrible idea in the first place. I'm also not that pleased with the next deal in that it will be at least 2040 before we get a nuclear sub and is no doubt going to be very, very expensive.
Are we assuming that those we are trying to protect ourselves from are going to wait 29 years for us to sort our defences out ?
These deals are about much more than just the subs themselves. All sorts of other trade arrangements etc would be attached to them.
Yes, politicians do dirty deals all the time. That is the nature of the world they inhabit. However, they normally contain them to their world where all the players no the rules.
Letting it spill out into the public allowing the shock jocks to blow it up and enrage the nuff nuffs does no one any favors.
It's a massive diplomatic failure by anyone's standards.
