I think 17 Dec is a good time as you can decide on the day on selling to Westpac or not and if you decide to sell, you would want to buy replacement shares at the same time. You would need to find the money for the replacement shares as the money does not arrive from selling to Westpac for many weeks (unlike selling on the market, it comes back in 2 days). If you have cash now, by all means, buying slowly to average down as the share price might start going up slowly 5 days from now. Who knows? But one can average down slowly over many trades.
