Really strange at 11pm today! Whomever bought my call options (I sold to mitigate the ex-dividend drop) decided to exercise! That makes me a short seller by default. So, tomorrow I get a boon by covering the shares at a lower price for a good profit. The buyers have the shares deposited into their accounts quickly so there is no need to wait for settlement day T+2. Perhaps, these people want the shares to sell back to Westpac that badly to accept the drop due to ex-dividend? By tomorrow, it's too late to buy the shares to sell back to Westpac. So, they exercised early and forced my broker to lend me the shares to sell short! Geez, what a fast way to grab shares without waiting for T+2 settlement. It's faster than buying on the market!
