Its fortune was linked to COVID and the question was going to be how sustainable its growth would be in a post-COVID world...

Maybe you bought at $1 in early June 2020, made a 3 bagger when it hit $3.50 by end of August the same year, i.e a 350% gain in less than 3 months !! And you thought if it could make 3 times within 3 months, imagine what it'd do in a year or longer. Well, in just over a year after it peaked, it retraced all those gains in Nordique fashion and in fact sitting at a loss of 11% on the $1 purchase price. Most investors would not want to sell and acknowledge that it has had its peak and may not regain it, so hung on they did and when their gains started to gradually evaporate, they clung on tighter , yes it feels like a fool selling when I could have had a 3 bagger had I sold.

This underscores the same thing we see with coal stocks, short term supply squeeze but longer term challenges ...the world (except CIA - China, India and Australia) sees coal as a thing of the past.

If one wants to play the short term gain with short term catalyst stocks, then get out when the party is over.

I prefer growth stocks with short term momentum coupled with longer term underpinnings.

And you constantly hear some saying that the biggest gains are made when you hold them the longest...it is true in some cases but not a universal truth. It depends on the stock, the price you pay and when you sell them. In other words, its your decision that counts. The stocks that continue to grow to become a fairy tale story like FMG are there, it comes with being at the right place at the right time i.e luck and possessing what the world wants and capable of delivering it on a sustainable basis. And the key word is SUSTAINABLE. A stock that has not got that word would not be a LT hold IMO.
