i think if you earn about $150k for a couple/family you are doing ok (so long as you dont over extend). anything less than that (assuming you have a couple kids, mortgage, etc), may be a struggle - but definately doesnt put you below the poverty line.
(i am simply stating the answer to the original question here, not debating greed or the "worth" to you of money/income to your lifestyle)
