@ozfd....I hope I am not being overly pedantic here. But if you were using a Crocodile as a test host for experiments, you would be on the wrong track to start with. You would be better starting with a Tuatara.
While they are both reptiles. The Crocodile is a lizard, whereas the Tuatara is a dinosaur. So you would, I assume, be on a better path for your experiment. The point I was trying to make; if one's experiment stars off incorrectly, one is never likely to obtain any useful data, one way or 'tother.
