I'm surprised no one else has commented but I would be surprised if the new CEO wasn't behind the decision of the new Brainchip office. I think this is a big decision that would have relied strongly on their input.
Consider some of the elements that would have gone into this decision:
-Company strategy: Commercialisation requires a very different focus than R&D / design. How fast is the new CEO planning to expand - if you do this too quickly it can lead to failure, but if you do this too slowly competitors will catch up. This office is meant to house the development, engineering, sales, finance and marketing teams. Even though these are relatively small now, they will grow quickly once funds start coming in.
-Income: It would have also have factored in the projected income stream from current and potential customers.
-Office size: How many employees does the company envision they will have in 5/10 years time? You don't want to keep moving offices too often as it's disruptive. Again, this would have
-Office location: This is where the CEO will be spending most of their time, so they would want it to be suitable for both them and their employees. This might factor in the location of some of their customers and partners, the pros and cons of living in there vs being closer to a bigger city.
-Branding: This new office is their biggest and where I would anticipate many clients to visit. It would need to look the part for a world-class semiconductor company.
Obviously there's a lot more than this that goes into it. But it would be strange to announce this, then in say 6 months time the new CEO comes along and says they're moving again. This is no small decision IMO. The current employees may have been looking into this for a while but I think the final sign-off would have made by the new CEO.
IMO the CEO has been doing some work in the background for a while now. I have been thinking this for a while based on some of the previous announcements, but I think this one is about as close to confirmation as you'll get until the official announcement.
Pure speculation, DYOR
