It is a right to take up the offer, but brokers like Commsec sometimes have a bit of trouble understanding such esoteric instruments!

They assume that if you buy the right then you definitely want to take it up, so unless you explicitly tell them to, they wont let them lapse.

I once had Commsec take up some rights weeks before they were due off their own bat, without any authorisation. Completely moronic. Took a few tense phone calls to sort that one out. They seem to understand them a little better now though.
