From what I know

The ulimate goal of JI is to create an Islamic state that includes Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philoppines, and parts Thailand.

Their arguement is these areas and countries were created by Europeans and they wnat to re-arrange things to the way they feel they should be.

AQ main gaol is the removal of westerners and the interests in particular the US from Arab lands and again re-define boundries that were created by Europeans.

Mixed into this is what they see as western interferance into their respective countries affairs, the profiteering by western countries and companies of their assets, the persecution of muslim people by non muslim and westerners the theft of their home lands.

Some of these areas clearly are go against the will of the majority and while they remain that way should not be allowed to be realised. That does not mean many of their grievances are not also legitamate and until these legitimate grievances are addressed those with more radical views will only gain more support and the terrorist problem will not go away, regardless of the amount of military force used.

Military action and law enforcement are 2 importantant elements in battling terrorism but they are not going to solve the problem without negotiations and compromises.

What Deagan has stated is correct and is alos the view of people like Major General Cosgrove who I assume some here would also consider a "Twit"
