Competition (finally)

EE Times Asia. Innatera Neuromorphic AI Chip Accelerates Spiking NetworksInnatera, the Dutch startup making neuromorphic AI accelerators for spiking neural networks, has produced its first chips, gauged their performance, and revealed details of their architecture. The Innatera chip is designed to accelerate spiking neural networks (SNNs), a type of neuromorphic AI algorithm based on brain biology which uses the timing of spikes in an electrical signal to perform pattern recognition tasks. SNNs are completely different in structure from mainstream AI algorithms and thus require dedicated hardware for acceleration, but they typically offer significant power consumption and latency advantages for sensor edge applications.
Processing architecture
Innatera’s spiking neural processor uses a parallel array of spiking neurons and synapses to accelerate continuous-time SNNs with fine-grained temporal dynamics. The device is an analog/mixed-signal accelerator designed to leverage SNN’s ability to incorporate the notion of time in how the data is processed.
Minor inconsistencies in fabrication between compute elements on the chip, and between different chips, can be a problem for implementing neural networks accurately in the analog domain. Innatera’s solution is to group neurons into what it calls segments, which are carefully designed to match path lengths and numbers of neurons.
_________________________________________Innatera just got their first batch of chips from the foundry. However, as @BarrelSitter mentioned in this post https://hotcopper.com.au/threads/new-brn-neuromorphic-media-article.5098093/page-570?post_id=53881525 they rely on analogue signals instead of Brainchip's digital (Innatera's tech is more prone to unwanted fluctuations due to manufacturing as alluded to in article above). Also their patent application has run up against Brainchip's as uncovered by @uiux in his post https://hotcopper.com.au/threads/competitive-landscape.6126648/page-491?post_id=57193842 .
+ 1+++ years lead.
The "+++" being added as it's like comparing a grape to a watermelon.
