We're all different when it comes to how closely we monitor the market. Some of us trade and so watch the SP micro-movements like hawks.
Others check a few times per day. Others once per day... and yet others truly don't sweat the small stuff, and pay attention cyclicly, when news flow is expected and perhaps otherwise just once or twice a week to stay vaguely current. If there's another pattern out there that you adhere to and I've not represented you: nothing personal... this is the limit of how I'm willing to stretch my imagination right now!
Point being, we're about to enter into a new era with the NASDAQ listing. There is no overlap between NASDAQ and ASX trading hours, which means instead of having 6 hours per 24, to pay attention to, those who watch closely might want to be alert for 12.5 hours per 24, with a two hour break between when the NASDAQ stops and the ASX starts.
For folks in NSW When the ASX shuts down, the NASDAQ will run from 1.30am until 8am. Then you'll have just a couple of hours until the ASX fires up and runs for another 6 hours!
For folks in Europe
2.30pm London time, start monitoring the NASDAQ
9pm London time, NASDAQ closes
11pm London time, start monitoring the ASX
5am London time, ASX closes
Two hours later, rince and repeat...
Watching the market from 11pm to 5am, then from 2.30pm to 9pm, might make for some messed up sleep hours...
I'm in the UK time zone, but thankfully I'm one of those who is happy to check in just a few times a day at most, and sometimes lapse into the news flow driven mode where I pay even less attention.
Enjoy this end of an era
For all the excitement of this new chapter for the company, which will lay the groundwork for much bigger blue sky as the company's market cap equalizes gradually with those of its 1-2B USD US peers, we are about to lose a little bit in the healthy downtime department. Very small price to pay, of course, but I do like to pay attention to these things, so I can make the transition as healthily as possible.Maybe you can use this little advance exploration of the new 'open for business' hours to chart out how you want to take control of the new situation in a way that works for you, your family life, and your other important commitments. Since this simpler chapter is closing, I'm tipping my hat to it, and its simplicity will be forever mixed with the nostalgia of our earlier days.
