    The jury seemed to make the right decision based on the current laws in that US State.

    However, the right decision according to the law doesn't necessarily make the law right.

    If the kid was killed by the last guy shot, the one who got his bicep blown off, could he have gotten off with the same self defence charge or would he have gone for murder? The kid just got in first.

    if the guy hitting him with a skateboard inflicted wounds that killed the kid, would it have been self defence or murder? The kid just got in first.

    Ultimately, take away all the noise, anyone who sees a young man walking around with a loaded gun, not knowing his intentions, would feel threatened and thus a self defence plea should be upheld? Especially given the number of mass shootings that occur.

    So taking it back to basics, the kid should never have gone there with an exposed gun. Then noone would have felt threatened. Noone could have pled self defence.

    Everything else is legal technicalities.
