I did some reading re - Jaynes and he may be into something, a piece of the puzzle, certainly in regards to certain psychosis, people succumbing to, or driven by voices in their subconscious. Very complex and almost impossible to come up with neat, definitive answers.
If the hemispheres of the brain are not perfectly synced then one might end up like a character in a cartoon, with a red devil on one shoulder and a white angel on the other. There are people who succumb to religious ecstasy and others who become serial killers, both at the behest of a disembodied voice. Both suffering a possible breakdown of the equilibrium of properly associated brain function.
There is then a suggestion that this also may be the origin of G.d and therefore religion. Are we really in every sense the product of a delusion. Did we found culture and all society on a delusion. Is the foundations of most of the social, legal, moral, ethical edicts of the world we live in today founded by a delusion?
It may have been a catalyst into previously inconceivable beliefs and thought processes, but I doubt that such a brain structure is the genesis of G.d and religion. I don't think there is any one answer to this riddle. Humans themselves are a riddle.
We need answers as to why humans are so vastly separated from all other life, a separation not easily explained by evolution alone.
Going out for lunch with the wife. Will post more a bit later today.
