Their name derives from an 18th century dramatic trope.
Basically the " Motpey Fool", was a character who could tell the aristocracy anything ( good or bad) without getting their head chopped off.
So then, I suppose in a financial analyst setting, it's a group of journalists who arent afraid to call a spade a spade.
