Assault is assault. If you beat a child, particularly with a bit of wood, they simply learn that it is OK to beat others. Reality is that when parents hit their children they are usually expressing their own frustrations rather than actively attempting to correct their child behaviours.

There are other more effective ways to discipline children. And I have three children that I do not hit, before you suggest I have no idea what I am talking about.
