I don't see the connection to the intention of this thread but will provide my reader's digest version.

The issue of land redistribution in Southern Africa - that is in South Africa and its neighbours - and possibly most of Africa is made complex by colonisation.

Prior to the arrival of colonials from Europe and the UK, land was a communal asset and not owned by individuals. Colonials by and large assumed ownership of land without the understanding or consent of the indigenous population. The colonials added infrastructure such as dams, fences, roads, electricity supply etc which gave them a sense of ownership. These resulting farms became family assets that were passed from one generation to the next.

An analogy would be someone building a house on another's land in Sydney and claiming ownership of the land because they had added so much value to the property.

The real losers in this game of land grabs are the San who have lived in Sothern Africa for over 100,000 years.
