Isn’t short selling that is proven to be artificial market manipulation illegal? Hence the practice generally and in particular dumping late in the day to force margin calls so the shorts can cover their behinds sounds like market games largely divorced from true price discovery, bearing a strong artificial component that is unjustified fear and shorters self serving tactics.
