It's a vexing subject and people become so polarised, so deeply invested in their belief that they lose objectivity.

The materialists honestly believe they have answers and they do to a point, but at edges of what we know, when their own sciences start contradicting, or at least not supporting fundamental scientific truths, they speculate like we all do, but they will rarely, if ever acknowledge the possibility of a G.d of any sort, or a human spirit, because it can't be proven sufficiently to their standards. And of course, their speculation is of a higher order than others because it has the imprimatur of science. Nothing wrong with that, so long as we all get to speculate.

Then there is fundamental religions. They hypothesis that a Creative Force of G.d exists, I do too. But then they propose teachings and beliefs that contradict proven science and that is neither an act of faith, nor a true belief in G.d, because G.d is also the G.d of science, because science is the study of Creation.

The main difference between science and religion, even though none really exists, is that educated people run science and religion is run by people who have a calling, basically they call themselves and even call themselves to rule in heaven with Jesus. Those who have a calling tend to be greatly in need of an education as well.

Then we have this gift of Free Will, denied by the materialist, subverted by the religionist. We have Free Will so long as you don't use it. Don't mention G.d of the human spirit, or it's only use is to believe exactly what the religious leaders, Governing Body, preacher tells you. So you have Free Will, but it must be constrained and strangled by religious authority and there are more religious experts than overweight people crowding a Bunnings sausage sizzle.

So this is the one subject where I reckon just about everybody is wrong and it will never get discussed openly without contention and disrespect, because people are already full of everything they need to know.
