Yes Hydrogen enables renewables to effectively have a battery, its like pumping water back into a dam to use it again at night for hydro power. There are other ways to store photovoltaic energy than Hydrogen, you can simply heat H2O and run it through a vacuum to generate steam etc. These enable renewables to provide electricity at non peak production times ,thus removing a major obstacle to their use. Or simply plugging your EV into the night grid.Tidal Power has a similar problem, 1 day a month there is no tide so you need a 100% backup generator which makes it cost uncompetitive. H/E the energy supply economists say that renewables are cheaper per unit of electricity than coal or gas. I am not in a position to dispute that. Nuclear is very expensive to build and needs a large population mass to justify its capex. But its not just economics that are a factor. The smog one see's in capital cities throughout the world can only be fixed with either H2 or EV's.
Fascist governments worldwide are having a field day with covid and need to be resisted which is becoming more evident daily, thankfully, but given the choice between using fossil fuels v's renewables on a cost zero basis I would choose renewables, it simply makes more sense. Fossil fuels have brought us a long way in the last century; I am eternally grateful for that but with computer systems and renewables combined we are enabled to choose a much less shotgun approach to our transport and energy needs. You did raise dinosaurs! COG are dinosaurs and their days are numbered. I am still prepared to make money from them, that is why I am on MAY and I would punt a slab on Dukas if it ever got up but only short term punts. My interest in all these matters is largely superficial because i wont live long enough to have it affect me more than it already does and because these matters are way beyond my control so I just need to see where the world is going so I can punt my money in the right places. I am not passionate about climate change, fossil fuels or renewables.
