If there's no grant money it would be silly to locate the first 50MW site in OZ. CWE could get 4x the price per MW in the UK. There is a lot of political enthusiam for wave power there, from both parties, which would help get something off the ground.

But obviously, a free $80mill or so would be the best result. It's up to Rudd to make the right decision.

Also, I think it's wrong to think the REDP grants will be couched in terms of "saving the environment". The Libs cant argue on that point so are going to hammer the govt on the ETS in relation to "jobs jobs jobs". That's why references to jobs have become more prevalent in CWE ann in the past 6 months or so.

So the REDP announcements will probably come when the Libs gain any traction in this regard. CWE does offer enormous opportunity to spruik "real green jobs", not just in constructing the wave farms, but in manufacturing the CETO units as well. I just noticed a large number of car assembly workers took redundancy in SA this week because they were only getting half the work they were getting previously. Who could survive on that? These are the same people who could manufacture CETO units.

If i was the fed govt, i'd be negotiating(telling!) with CWE for a 50MW wave site in Victoria, with the manufacturing to occur in Adelaide (there is even a particular site already picked out, as long ago as the last election). I know in the past, discussions have been held with wind turbine manufacturer Keppel Prince (i think that's their name) in Victoria, but having it in SA would give the govt so much leverage to spruik green jobs around the country.

It would also mean CWE could milk the Vic govt for a grant in relation to the wave farm, and milk the SA govt in relation to a manufacturing facility (probably in conjunction with an established manufacturer to begin with).

Looking forawrd to more decisions and more activity in the SP. Let's hope we never have to battle through 24c again. What a brick wall that was for months!
