I can't see any issues with CRM making a full tilt at UMC.
The Oz Minerals story is a good guide. In the end, the Chinese were able to wholly take over Oz's assets such as the Century Mine, Rosebury, etc. The only thing they couldn't get their hands on was the Prominent Hill mine in South Australia (allegedly because it was located in the Woomera exclusion zone, but that was probably just an excuse for not letting the Chinese gain control of a very significant asset).
And all this was in an environment where it was viewed that the Chinese were opportunistically trying to pick up Aussie assets whilst the GFC was in full swing.
Now that the economic fear factor has largely disappeared, and the resource space is starting to look much healthier, I just can't see why there would be howls of protest from the FIRB or Government if the Chinese wanted to take over little ol' UMC.
