    Agree with your sentiment mick

"The government must ensure first home buyers are borrowing less, to save them from a life of a 'debt slave'"
How about they just be responsible people and only borrow within their means. If the government wants to do something why not offer some free financial education for those that want it. We seem to be in the era of "I take no responsibility for my own actions"

"We could really do with an independent body similar to the RBA - the "Housing Board of Australia" with powers to ensure price stability and growth at sustainable rates in the housing markets."
Yeah thats what we really need another useless government body meddling with things.

You are definitely right about the me me attitude mick as everyone wants to buy the big perfect house right now, plus have it filled with new furniture with a new car out front. People need to re-learn that they need to start small buy the cheap house and upgrade later to the better one. You can fill the house with cheap second hand furniture that is more than adequate for a start and you certainly don't need a new car. These are just a few easy points where they can save thousands, and get into a home that is a start.
You need to work hard to get anywhere in life, and you cannot have it all right now (unless you have buckets of cash lying around).
