On the subject of costs to the Australian taxpayer if she has to be rescued. If after the trip for the rest of her life she chooses to stay healthy, stay out of public hospital, keeps employed and stays off the pension etc then she will probably pay back any costs indirectly by not being a burden on the taxpayer. The other scenario is that another country picks up the tab because she gets rescued in their waters. In any case I don't mind my taxes going to saving our own.
