The "methane issue" was once again misreported. The "new satellite technology" purported to show and a x3 increase of methane emissions compared to previous estimates, emanating from the Bowen Basin. The zoomed out picture showed that many many more such sites in India, China and Indonesia .... to name a few. Now, bearing in mind that Indian GDP will double by 2050 and quadruple by 2100 .... ditto China.
Hence coal power will increase for the next 30-50 years unless some miracle breakthrough occurs in "technology" or the Indians and Chinese accept that for the sake of the planet they can't put the same amount of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere as Europeans and Americans did for 200 yrs, and they just have to accept a low energy, low standard of living in perpetuity while the Europeans go (relatively) low carbon while they continue to have record numbers of tourists and record exports of EV etc etc .......... NOT going to happen.
Australia has an obligation to continue exports of high quality coal .... while it reduces it domestic carbon foot print .... sane, responsible and economically feasible. BUT don't rule out another Bob Brown invasion of Queensland resulting in a movement for Qld to succeed.
